Custom Quilts

ABOUT MY MATERIALS

I use Quilters Dream 80/20 batting on all quilts unless another brand or type is requested. Quilters Dream has an incredible soft feel and gives the quilt a luxurious drape. The 80/20 has a nice weight to it. If you prefer 100% Cotton, please be sure to mention this when ordering.

All of my quilting is performed on my table-top sewing machine, Juki TL-2010Q.

    • A 50% deposit is required to begin the process. The remaining cost is due upon completion of the quilt, prior to shipping.

    • You, the buyer, are responsible for shipping costs. Shipping rates change very frequently, however I use a third-party shipping company who offers discounts which I pass on to you. The shipping cost will depend on the weight of the quilt, and your location, therefore I am unable to provide the shipping cost until the quilt is complete.

    • If you live local to Southern New Jersey, then we can arrange a pick-up, which will eliminate the costs of shipping.

    • Please be aware that prices can increase depending on batting and quilting requirements.

  • I am not a fan of “sticker-shock”, so here is a list of things that can effect the cost:

    • The number one part of the quilt that can effect the cost is the batting. I use Quilter’s Dream 80/20 unless another type is requested. For a higher loft, costs could increase.

    • Backing fabric. I prefer to use flannel or cotton. Other materials, such as minky or fleece, could cost more.

    • Quilting, or the stitching needed over the quilt. If the quilting desire is more dense, or if the backing fabric is very thick (i.e. fleece), I may need to use a longarm which can increase costs.

    • Applique piecing will require more time as well as materials. If a desired pattern requires applique, this could bring additional costs.

Backing fabric (the part of the quilt that hugs you when you wear it) that I use is soft flannel. It provides warmth and softness without adding a lot of weight. Other fabrics that I can work with (at additional costs) are minky, fleece, and silky (a silk-like fabric with more body than real silk).

The thread I use is 100% Polyester. It is durable and withstands quilting without breaking.

Some quilts require the use of a longarm to quilt. This is due to weight (I quilt king-sized quilts on a longarm) and/or backing fabric. Heavier backing fabric, such as fleece, and be difficult to quilt on a table-top machine. Longarm machine remove the risk of the back “puckering”.
